Competition day can be exciting, but it can also feel stressful if you are not prepared. Having the right kit packed in advance makes the day much easier.
Use this BJJ competition checklist to prepare before you leave home.
Essential Kit
Pack your competition Gi first. Make sure it is clean, dry and fits correctly. Also check that your belt is packed and easy to find.
You may also need a rashguard, shorts or spare training kit depending on the competition format.
Pack The Basics
Your bag should include:
- Clean BJJ Gi
- Belt
- Rashguard
- Shorts or base layer
- Water bottle
- Light snacks
- Flip-flops or sliders
- Towel
- Spare clothes
- Any required ID or registration details
Check The Rules
Before the event, check the competition rules carefully. Pay attention to uniform requirements, weigh-in process, match times and bracket information.
Prepare The Night Before
Do not leave packing until the morning. Wash and dry your Gi in advance, check your route and make sure you know when you need to arrive.
Mindset For The Day
Try to stay calm and focus on gaining experience. Whether you win or lose, competing is a valuable part of your BJJ journey.
Being prepared helps you walk into the venue feeling confident, organised and ready to perform.
